  • Engage in grassroots advocacy focused on defending democracy
  • Learn to register voters

  • Attend and help plan community forums

Rising 10th and 11th grade students of any gender that attend a high school in Shaker Heights and are residents of the Shaker Heights School District are encouraged to apply.

  • Fellowship runs September 2026-June 2027

  • $1,000 stipend upon completion

Shaker Heights League of Women Voters
Student Project Application


We are happy to hear you'd like to complete a student-led project with the LWV!   The League is a nonpartisan organization that works diligently to empower voters and defend democracy. 

Below is a list of student project ideas that would help us fulfill our mission. We invite you to review the list and either choose one or two of these that fit your abilities or explain an original idea of your own. Our chapter has a limited amount of money to offer for each project and we will work with you to figure out the costs and how we can support your project.  

Project Idea Options

Communications Support: 

  • Social Media Graphic Design and Copy Creation
  • Monthly column writing featuring a student perspective and interviews on local issues
  • LWV event poster design and hanging posters in Shaker Heights locations
  • Informational video creation for LWV social media, website, and YouTube channel

Educational Forums Support:

  • Partnering with the Forum Committee to plan and implement an educational forum on student areas of concern like security, academic performance gaps, school funding, and inviting an expert to speak. 
  • Researching student area of interest and writing advocacy letters to media outlets or legislators 

Voter Services Support:

  • Learning how to register voters and creating a student group to lead educations sessions on the voting process

Meeting Observer Reports Support: 

  • Attending Shaker Heights City leader meetings and helping writing the chapter observer reports
  • Help maintaining our Vote411 website information on those running for office each election
